Leg 2: Racer Rankings

10 Jun

Leg 2 has come and gone, so it’s time once again for me to assess my feelings on each of the remaining teams. Some feelings changed, some were reinforced. If you haven’t seen them yet, check out my previous opinions on the racers. Then, read on for my thoughts and opinions on the racers.

Amanda & Chris
I didn’t care for these two last week, and I still don’t really like them all that much. She wasn’t nearly as offensive this week. Probably because she wasn’t driving. I’ll put this team on the Undecided list and say good bye to them.
David & Jeff
Who are these two again? Once again, we get almost no footage of them in this episode, so I still don’t have any read on them. So they remain in the Undecided list.
Jon & Al
I continue to like these two. As long as we don’t see too much of their clowning around, I think it’ll stay that way. It’s nice to see that they’re taking the opportunity to enjoy themselves and make friends with the locals. After all, everyone loves seeing a bicycle balanced on someone’s chin. Definately in the Like list.
Kelly & Jon
These two seem like a less extreme version of Russell & Cindy. They have definite communication problems, but Jon treats her a thousand times better than Russell treats Cindy. They’re big problem is an apparent inability to read and comprehend the clues. First they mistakenly head to the top of the ski slope. Then they run through the streets of Venice during the Pathway detour without bothering to ask the locals for directions, even though the directions say they can. I’m still Undecided on these two.
Millie & Chuck
Chuck is still pretty much a blank slate. All we know is that he’s afraid of commitment. But Millie is a really tough cookie. My only complaint about her is that when she gets in race mode, she tends to get a little rude. Watch her actions while doing the Detour. She rudely brushes off the people who can’t help her. So, this team losses a few points this week, but they’re still on the Like list.
Monica & Sheree
Nothing much this week to change my opinion of them. Some might complain that Monica took too long on the Roadblock. But with no frame of reference for how long she actually took, its hard to say. Chris has said in an interview that it took him 17 minutes to complete the Roadblock, so 15 minutes trying to find the right person isn’t really that bad. This week, they’ll go on the Like list.
Reichen & Chip
These two are begging to be the bad boys of this race. And I mean boys in the literal sense. Who else would think it was a good idea to hang on the doors of the train station like a 5 year old? The certainly have this thing about lines and wanting to be in front. So they have pushed themselves further down the Dislike list.
Russell & Cindy
Russell is a jerk. Although that’s probably not a strong enough word for him. There was absolutely no excuse for his comment to Cindy on the train. Or for completely ignoring her while planning his attack on Venice with members from other teams. I don’t think much of Cindy either as she’s enabling him. These two are flapping around on the bottom of the Dislike list with Reichen and Chip.
Steve & Dave
These two aren’t doing too bad. And their use of the Fast Forward this week made good strategic sense since it allows them to get off their bum knees sooner. Plus, they’ve got about a 3 hour lead on the rest of the teams. If things work out for them, they may be able to get out of Venice ahead of everyone. And the other thing in their favor is that their enjoying themselves. They certainly seemed to be having a good time at the Fast Forward skit. Firmly on the Like list.
Steve & Josh
I don’t like Josh. I don’t know about Steve. Josh acts like he thinks this is Survivor, and not The Amazing Race. You don’t need alliances in this game. They can help from time to time, but it is still too early to be making them. And Steve has had a total of about 2 minutes screen time in the last two weeks, so he’s still an unknown. But he seems to be letting Josh lead the way. So I’ll put these two on the Dislike list this week.
Tian & Jaree
These two are tough to decide on. On the train trip to Venice, they have a defeatist attitude the entire time about how it’s impossible for them to catch up. Yet they make it out of the Roadblock in 3rd place and are 4th to the pit stop. Not too shabby. I’ll have to put these two on the Undecided list this week.

So this week we’ve ended up with 4 Likes, 4 Undecideds, and 3 Dislikes. My opinions of several teams changed, with Monica & Sheree moving up to the Like list, Amanda & Chris and Tian & Jaree moving up to the Undecided list, and Richen & Chip falling to the Dislike list. And with the preview from next week, they may make it all they to the bottom of that list.

Tune in Thrusday night Pacific time, Friday morning Eastern, for the Summary of Leg 3.
