Leg 3: Racer Rankings

17 Jun

We are 3 legs into this edition of the race, and I think my opinions of most of the teams are starting to coalesce. If you haven’t read them yet, you can catch up on last weeks rankings. Only one team remains on the Undecided list, but they fell back onto it from the Like list. Looks like I’ve got more teams to cheer for than to jeer for, so the rest of this race should be fun. Unless all the teams I like get eliminated.

Anyways, on to this weeks analysis of the racers.

David & Jeff
These two are finally starting to develop a personality. Not much of one, but its a start. I applaud these two for understanding the race enough to know that it is enough to simply avoid elimination. Coming in first is not a requirement, Tian. I question the logic of their fiacre grabbing alliance with Reichen & Chip, though. I have no clue how it was supposed to work. But at least they’ve learned not to trust their fortunes in the race to other teams. Will put these two on the Like list this week.
Jon & Al
Still love these two. And it was really nice of them to stop and assist Millie while she was having her asthma attack. It may not have been the smartest race strategy, but they definitely garnered good will with Millie & Chuck which may help them down the line. These two remain on me Like list.
Kelly & Jon
I wonder about these two sometimes. They seem to have a problem reading the clues at times, including the one stating they have to pull the tag of the fiacre to claim it. Hopefully these two will learn to listen to each other, otherwise they’re likely to get themselves eliminated. Overall, though, I still think they belong on the Like list.
Millie & Chuck
I continue to love these two. Or, at least Millie. Chuck still doesn’t have much personality. I’ll take the opportunity here to weigh in on the “carriage-gate” incident. The pushing and shoving that occurred during the scramble for the tag was not unexpected. Neither Millie nor Chip can be faulted for it. Furthermore, I’ll give Millie some slack in her response to Chip since she was still wound up from the scuffle. She did realize after he left, though, that the whole thing had gotten blown out of proportion. Hopefully she’ll find an opportunity to apologize to Chip for the incident. So, I’m leaving this team firmly on my Like list.
Monica & Sheree
They did very well this week. And they seemed to have gotten the hang of Amazing Race alliances. Keep them short term and very specific. First the one with Reichen & Chip to help them get the first train, then the one with Tian & Jaree to finish the Detour. Both worked out for all involved, and there did not appear to be any heard feelings afterwards. Way to go ladies. Keep up the good work. We’ll write you in on the Like list this week.
Reichen & Chip
Ah yes, these two. These two stay on the Dislike list for yet another week. Reichen hasn’t done anything this week to improve my impression of him. And Chip hasn’t helped his case any either. As I mentioned above, I don’t blame him or Millie for the tag grabbing incident, but he needs to work on his graciousness if he wants to win friends.
Russell & Cindy
Ugh… Good riddance. And Cindy? Make sure you spend some time with Debra & Steve while you’re in sequesterville. They’ll show you what love is all about. This team ends the race with their names on the Dislike list in permanent marker.
Steve & Dave
These two definitely have the lucky streak going. They leave first, and get on the wrong train. But bunching at the sewers saves them. Then they fall to last place at the bungee jump, but stupidity on the part of Russell & Cindy allow them to make it to the pitstop in 9th place. How long before their luck runs out? I’m betting very soon. But I still like their attitude and friendship, so they get to stay on the Like list.
Steve & Josh
I’m still undecided about these two. Their decision to use the Fast Forward this leg was sound since they were in the last pack and had no way of knowing if they would be able to make up time. But Josh’s rudeness after winning the Fast Forward was unacceptable. Show some manners and at least thank the guy for the clue. Ugly American indeed. I’ll put these two down on the Undecided list this week.
Tian & Jaree
These two are almost as much a train wreck as Russell & Cindy. Tian needs to chill out and lay off Jaree about her pack. Please have these arguments at the PitStop where we don’t have to watch them. As Miss Alli put it in her recap,
“When you can make me root for the girl with her fingers in her ears who’s going, ‘La la la,’ you’re over the line.”
I can’t stand Tian, and Jaree hasn’t done much to endear herself to me, so on balance, these two end up on the Dislike list.

So, this week we have ended up with 6 teams on the dislike list, 1 on the Undecided list, and 3 on the Dislike list. Looks like I’m starting to get a better feel for the teams. Tian & Jaree have fallen back onto the Dislike list while Dave & Jeff and Kelly & Jon have climbed onto th eLike list. Steve & Josh have the honor having fallen back down to the Undecided list. Maybe they can salvage themselves next week.

The big question, of course, reamins which of the teams I dislike are going to make it to the final 3. Tune in on Thursday nights and we’ll find out together.
