T-7 Days and Counting

11 Feb

We’re only a week away from the start of The Amazing Race: All Stars. It’s been a long Christmas break with none of the glorious TAR experience to enthrall us, excite us, and make us cringe. But soon that will start again.

TARAS sees 11 former teams of racers returning for another go at $1 million. Only 1 former winner has returned, but several runners up have returned.

I’m really looking forward to seeing how this batch of racers manages the race. Once of the challenges for any watcher of the race is trying to pick the order of elimination. Right now, my vote is on David & Mary to go first, but beyond that, it’s hard to say what the order will be. Almost all of the returning racers had strong finishes in their respective races, so it’s hard to imagine any of them going out early in the race. The other big question of this race is who’s going to be cast as the bad guy. We have several “villains” returning: Bill & Joe (Guido), Rob & Amber, and Teri & Ian. While only Bill & Joe were ever really treated as bad guys, both the other two teams had their share of detractors in the fan base.

Finally, the big question mark is the one new team in this race, Eric & Danielle. These two actually raced against each other during their season, but they managed to generate enough sparks in Danielle’s short stint in the race that they connected after the race and have returned as a single team. It’ll be interesting to see how well they get along having never raced as a team.

All in all, I’m looking forward to this season. Hopefully it won’t turn out to be a huge dud like the Family Edition (a.k.a. Driving around the country in giant SUV with a giant trailer killing the ozone layer).
