Episode 11.10 - Selling Your Soul (And a Yield)
Wow! This is the kind of great Amazing Race leg that makes it worth dealing with episodes like last week. Intrigue, mistakes, bad navigation, and unexpected finishes. What more could a viewer ask for? Of course, it once again shot a gaping hole in my predictions.
As Danny & Oswald both pointed out, there decision to sell their Yield to Dustin & Kandice was a decision that bit them in the butt hard. The need for money in the race makes you do things you wouldn’t otherwise do, and Oswald had a bad feeling about it from the start. That said, that one decision wasn’t the reason everything fell apart. Bad navigation on their detour choice put them in a hole they just couldn’t recover from. Fortunately for them, Phil was generous and gave them an unexpected non-elimination allowing them to recover and live to fight another day.
Dustin & Kandice made a shrewd deal to buy off Danny & Oswald. In the end, it didn’t change the outcome of the race for them. They ran a solid leg, completed the Detour with only a small delay, and navigated cleanly. They certainly earned the first place finish.
Charla & Mirna continue to annoy. As is tradition with the previews, the advertised inability to drive stick led to nothing but a short delay. I’m taking bets that Charla punches Mirna in the mouth before this race is over. She was clearly annoyed with the way Mirna was treating her at the Detour. And for once, I’d love to hear Charla talk about why she’s on the race instead of listening to Mirna talk about it for her. Go Away!
Eric & Danielle just suck. They managed to overcome both the 30 minute penalty and the Yield to come in 3rd, but Eric is carrying enough emotional baggage to kill a camel. Give it up, man. The Yield is part of the race, and using it does not make you a horrible person. As the saying goes, “hate the sin, not the sinner”. It’s perfectly acceptable to think that getting Yielded sucks and to wish it hadn’t happened. But threatening to kill the people who yielded you, or throw them off a cliff is so far over the line that you can’t even see the line anymore. Go Away!
But, with two teams I want to go away, who do I choose for the final three?? I have no idea. Anyone have a way to reconcile this conundrum?
