Episode 11.11 - Race for the Final Three
And then there were three. But with just a 1 in 3 chance of a team I like winning, it’s gonna be a stressful episode next week.
Episode Notes
It was great to see the teams visiting Guam. A chance for the racers and the show to salute the soldiers that defend our freedom. And to demonstrate how unqualified most of these people are to be in the military.
The Detour presented an interesting choice, and while washing the plane was harder physically, it turned out to be the faster option. It was also nice seeing a Detour in which the local judge held everyone to the same standard and didn’t cut trailing teams any slack just because they were behind. (Piano tuning anyone?)
The Roadblock put all of the teams into a stressful situation. Only Dustin seems to have mastered the art of following the arrow. Everyone else struggled to figure out how to operate the thing. And Charla couldn’t keep her hands off the buttons, while Oswald once again demonstrated that you shouldn’t call on him if you are lost and in need of rescue.
Team Notes
Dustin & Kandice continue to be the team to beat with them blazing through the navigation and the Roadblock with little difficulty. They have now accumulated 4 first place finishes and have shown us that they know how to run this race and how to get along in the face of adversity.
Eric & Danielle seem to be a very mismatched team. Eric has been all the way through the race, losing out to the Hippies. He knows what to expect, and he is a smart and savvy guy. Danielle managed to survive four legs and seems to have nothing to offer to the team except whining. Danielle clearly had tremendous difficulty with the Roadblock and who knows how much time she bled for the team by not being able to manage a device that essentially says “go in that direction.”
Charla & Mirna just won’t die. Their like cockroaches that always seem to be able to scurry out of the way before you can squash them. Of the three teams in the finals, they have the worst average finish. They have avoided elimination through the misfortune of others, and they Mirna has an ego the size of Manhattan. And now I have to spend the final hour of the race rooting for them to lose. Why, oh why?
Danny & Oswald just couldn’t catch a break after they got to Guam. They managed to squeeze onto the flight in Tokyo, but once on the ground, their navigation skills just weren’t up to the task. They headed in the wrong direction on the way to the Naval Base, and were unable to close the gap. Add to that the difficulty Oswald has locating his pilot, and you have the recipe for an elimination. You would have made a fine addition to the Final Three, and would have raised the odds of a liked team winning. But there choice of Charla & Mirna for the win dropped them several notches on my scorecard. Mirna really seems to have the two of them snowed.
Conclusions
So we find ourselves at the beginning of the final leg of the race with Dustin & Kandice, Eric & Danielle, and Charla & Mirna racing for the $1 million dollars. My prognostication turned out to be as accurate as if you had drawn names from a hat. But what can I say. I pick them the way I want them to turn out.
I still have Dustin & Candice for the win though.
