Episode 11.12 - And the All Star-est Team is…
From Guam, to Hawaii, and finally San Francisco, the final three teams faced mother nature, airline schedules, and the US Mint in a race to the finish line at San Francisco’s Botanical Garden. In the end, it was Eric & Danielle that beat out a surging Dustin & Kandice to take the million dollar prize.
Eric & Danielle ran strong through the final leg, staying in the hunt. Their ability to see eye to eye on the final task allowed them to build a 2 minute lead, which was all they needed to beat Dustin & Kandice to the finish line. The obviously fake phone conversation with Jeremy was way over the top. Someone needs to let Jeremy know that he has no future in movies.
Dustin & Kandice fought hard, kept pushing, and closed up gaps when necessary. They even managed to get over their differences in a single 2 and a half minute commercial break, something Eric has never managed. They ran a hard race all the way to the end, but their inability to complete the final task put them behind Eric & Danielle and sealed their second place finish. But they can console themselves with the knowledge that as first runners up, if Eric & Danielle are unable to fulfill their obligations as winners of The Amazing Race All Stars, they will be able to step forward and take their place.
Charla & Mirna managed to hang in on the race far better then I expected, even managing to snag an early flight into Hawaii. But their slowness getting out of the airport put them behind on the ground in San Francisco. And Charla was unable to sneak into the lead during the final task. This secured them their 3rd place finish, which is better than they deserve.
It was nice seeing all the other teams one last time. Mrs. Cosmic quickly noted Rob’s seeming inability to applaud for any of the final three teams as they were arriving on the mat. He clearly still believes that he is the best racer of all time, his elimination notwithstanding. At least Amber kept up the social side of the relationship, cheering for the teams as they hit the mat.
And with that, this season is a wrap. Not the optimal outcome from my viewpoint, but one I can live with. See you all for the next race!
