Season 12, Leg 10: Miracles Do Happen

13 Jan

Lest anyone think that miracles don’t happen anymore, I give you the penultimate episode of Amazing Race 12. For the first time in 12 seasons of this race, I’m not rooting against any of the final 3 teams.

As the teams leave Japan, TK & Rachel are trailing by over 3 hours. But hours of operation at the first task, and a multitude of flights into Taipei, Taiwan allow them to close the gap and catch up with Nick & Don and Nate & Jen in the Taipei airport.

Ron & Christina catch the earliest flight in and never look back. By the time they hit the mat in first place, they’ve built up at least a 45 minute lead over the other teams. They raced strong and worked together well.

TK & Rachel stressed a little and started to lose their composure while searching for their first clue, but catching up with everyone put them back on an even keel. They even managed to get through the Speed Bump with little difficulty allowing them to catch the same train as the other two trailing teams. Smart thinking by both of them allowed them to make up time and hit the mat in second place. A strong finish after last weeks blunders.

Nick & Don kept up their slow and steady racing. Nothing monumental in their racing skills, but they seem to be playing the part of the tortoise, always slow and steady. They reached Phil in 3rd place and became the final team in the race for the finish mat.

Nate & Jen fell back in to old habits of bickering with each other. Any time stress builds up on the race, they lash out at each other. They spent the whole race as two people trying to drag their partner along, and never made that connection that Ron & Christina did to become a unified team. Good bye you two. See you at the finish line.
