Season 12, Leg 11: Nice Guys Do Finish First
First things first. Nailed it!!! Which is a far cry from last time when I wasn’t even close. Anyways, more thoughts after the break.
The 12th season of the Amazing Race comes to an end in Alaska with a wild race through the streets and and in taxis as TK & Rachel cross the finish line first and win 1 million dollars. Hot on their heels are Ron & Christina who had been leading all the way up to the Roadblock. As expected, Nick & Don, who had been trailing the entire leg, never caught a break and ended up in third.
This is the most stressed we have seen TK & Rachel in this entire race. But they kept their calm demeanor and were able to work their way through everything. The advantage of remaining calm was most evident at the Roadblock, where Rachel kept her head and was able to think her way through the challenge and finish first. This put them in first place and they held onto that position all the way to the finish line. These two had the best attitude of almost any racer that has ever been on the race. And they are two people I could definitely see being friends with.
Ron & Christina grabbed a lead immediately upon leaving the airport in Anchorage, but the stress of the Roadblock cost them a first place finish. Contrary to what I stated in my predictions, however, it wasn’t Ron yelling at her that slowed her down. He really has changed on this race. And that’s quite an accomplishment. I’m sure that he’s been embarrassed watching his behavior early on in the race. But knowing how everything turned out, he was able to keep his head up proudly. Good job, Ron!
Nick & Don hit Alaska in third place, and they never managed to catch up. Their biggest chance to do so was blown when they left their bag of supplies at Sixth Avenue Outfitters, and they lost their chance to get in front of TK & Rachel. But to see them press on, and to watch Don clamor up the ice wall and push his way through the rest of the tasks was a nice thing to watch. They deserve to be congratulated for making it all the way to the finish line. Excellent work.
And with that, this season has ended. And what a way for it to end. Three teams who all like each other, and like their teammates. Teams who are able to talk and joke and be friends in the down time, and push hard to win when the race resumes. We may never get a final three like this again. For that alone, I’d vote this season as one of my favorites.
How about you? Does this race top your list? Or does it come in behind another one? Let me know what you think!
